SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golfer Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) earned his third straight Southern Conference Golfer of the Week nod the league office announced Wednesday. He is just the second golfer in SoCon history to win three straight golfer of the week awards (Kirk Satterfield, Furman, 2001) and it is the fourth such award for a Moc this season (Benni Weilguni - March 9).
Jaeger won his first collegiate medalist honor in leading the Mocs to a second-place finish at the LSU National Invitational in Baton Rouge over the weekend. UTC lost to No. 9 LSU by a single stroke, while beating its third top 15 opponent of the week in No. 12 Iowa.
Jaeger beat nine nationally-ranked golfers headlined by wins over No. 7 Vince India (Iowa) by seven and No. 19 Andrew Loupe (LSU) by nine. He was the only golfer under par for the tournament at seven-under winning by seven shots.
It was his fourth top 10 in 2010-11 and 10th of his career. Jaeger recorded his second consecutive top 5 and moved into fourth all-time at UTC with 43 career par or better rounds.
He played par or better on 48 of his 54 holes including all 18 during the second 18 on Saturday with five birdies and 13 pars. His 14 birdies tied for the tourney lead, while he led in Par 4 scoring at minus two.
Jaeger is 15-under par over his last eight rounds (144 holes). For the season, he is level par over eight tournaments. He is now ranked 51st in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and 59th on Golfstat. His R&A World Amateur ranking rose 104 spots from 273 to 169.
The reigning SoCon Golfer of the Year leads Chattanooga into the SoCon Championship April 17-19 at the Country Club of South Carolina. The Mocs look to recapture the title winning the previous three prior to last year.
