CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team may be on summer hiatus, but there is no break from competition. Each UTC student-athlete continues playing in a variety of regional, national and international competitions. This is the first installment of the Mocs Summer Update:
Jaeger Advances to Round of 32 at British
Amateur
Departing senior All-American Stephan Jaeger (Munich,
Germany) won his first match at the British Amateur 4&3 over Max Orrin
Wednesday afternoon at Royal Troon in Scotland. He now faces Rory McNamara
Wednesday. With a win, he'll square off against Jack McDonald or Will McCurdy
(Auburn).
Jaeger tied for 15th in stroke play qualifying shooting level par (142). He beat every member of Europe's Palmer Cup team except Julien Brun (TCU) who bested Jaeger by a stroke. Robert Karlsson (Liberty) is the only European Palmer Cup selection remaining in the field.
Other Mocs in the field were Chris Robb (150), Benni Weilguni (153) and Liam Johnston (156).
Steven Fox and Kory Webb win USGA Qualifiers
Rising senior Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) and
incoming freshman Kory Webb (Knoxville, Tenn.) won their qualifiers to advance
to the United States Amateur Public Links Championship. The event is one of the
major amateur events, along with the U.S. Amateur in the nation.
Webb tied with two others for low qualifying score on June 18 at Furman University Golf Club. Webb shot 65-76 for a three-under par 141. He advanced along with College Golf Fellowship's Korky Kemp and Chris Waters.
Not to be outdone, Fox fired rounds of 68 and 66 for a 10-under par 134 at Harpeth Hills Golf Course in Nashville. Fox won by three shots over Tyler Ekenberg. Another incoming freshman Wes Gosselin (Knoxville, Tenn.) is first alternate finishing tied for third at 140 (-4).

Fox Defending Match Play Championship
Fox is having a busy June. He will defend his Tennessee
Match Play Championship June 26-29 at Spring Creek Ranch in Collierville, Tenn.
Fox has a strong history in the event defeating Spencer Provow in 19 holes last
year at Tennessee National. He finished in the final four in 2010.
He is the youngest champion in the history of the event. Sixty-four qualifiers play 36 holes of stroke play with top 16 moving on to four rounds of match play to decide the champion.
Michael Monroe in Action at 95th Western Junior Championship
Incoming freshman Michael Monroe (Franklin, Tenn.) is competing in the 95th Western Junior Championship. This year's event is played at the Country Club of Florida, June 19-22 (72 holes). Monroe opened with a two-over par 74.
The Western Junior, the oldest national junior tournament in the United States, draws the top junior players from more than 40 states and internationally each year. The field is limited to 156 entrants. Exemptions into the Western Amateur are awarded to the top three finishers and ties. Former champions include Jim Furyk (1987), Hunter Mahan (1999) and Rickie Fowler (2005), while major winners such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, Craig Stadler and Corey Pavin are among the many golfers to play in the event.
Competition begins with 18 holes of stroke play. Following a second round of stroke play, the field is cut to the low 70 and ties.
Davis Bunn and Kory Webb at Greystone
Invitational
Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Webb are competing in the 12th Annual
Greystone Invitational at Greystone Golf and Country Club Founder's Course. The
72-hole event is June 21-24.
U.S. Open runner-up Michael Thompson won the 2007 event. This year's field includes a bevy of collegiate golfers along with former NFL kicker Al Del Greco.
