CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The Chattanooga Lady Mocs softball team wraps up its fall schedule Saturday at Frost Stadium with its 12th annual Blue-Gold Game. First pitch of the inter-squad matchup is set for 11 p.m. and will feature a free post-game cookout presented by the RBI Club.
"This is my favorite time of the year," Head Coach Frank Reed said. "The fall brings beautiful weather for us to play softball. This is always a fun game and it can get very competitive. With the big team we have this season, it will allow us to split the team into two and make it a true inter-squad game."
Reed said this will be the last time before the spring that he and his coaching staff will get to see the team in live-action game situation.
"It will be a great opportunity for getting quality at bats, getting good looks at the pitcher and getting an understanding of what the pitcher is trying to do to you," Reed said. "The only drawback from this game is that the pitchers know the batters so well. The pitchers know how to pitch to our batters so that may be a little unfair to our girls at the plate, but that only serves to make them better."
The game is set to wrap up at 1 p.m. as the post-game picnic will get underway immediately after. The picnic is free to all those in attendance and admission to the matchup is free. Fans will also have the chance to interact with the 2012 Lady Mocs squad and coaches during the cookout.
"Hopefully we have a lot of fans come out and support the team," Reed said. "The RBI Club does a great job of supporting us with the picnic. If you like softball and free food, this game is a no-brainer."
