Western Carolina Hosts Chattanooga Softball

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Lady Mocs softball team (18-16, 3-3 SoCon) travels to Cullowhee, N.C., this weekend to take on Western Carolina in a three-game series before the Easter holiday. Chattanooga is set to play a single game Friday against the Catamounts, beginning at 5 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend Saturday with a double-header at Noon.

The Lady Mocs are looking to bounce back from a midweek loss to Georgia State and rise above the .500 mark in the Southern Conference. Senior Sara Poteat (Thomaston, Ga.) continues to lead the offensive attack for the Lady Mocs, batting .358 with a team-high 43 hits, while fellow senior Kasey Tydingco (Fairfield, Calif.) is batting .351 and is tied for the second spot on the team in hits with sophomore Sarah Beth Roberts (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) at 34 each. Tydingco also leads Chattanooga with two home runs, belting her second Wednesday against the Panthers.

Taylor Deason (Clarksville, Tenn.) continues to pace the team with 12 wins while freshman Rachel Albritton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) sports a team-best 2.47 ERA. Albritton is 1-1 in conference while Deason claimed two wins over Appalachian State last weekend to improve to 2-1 in SoCon play. Freshman Kaisey Carson (Indianapolis, Ind.) is still in search of her first SoCon win while holding down the two spot in the bullpen with a 3.19 ERA.

The Catamounts enter the weekend at 11-21 on the season with a 3-6 mark in the Southern Conference. Meagan Crowe leads the WCU offense with a .321 average while Amelia Griffin paces the team in hits with 30. Shemekia Scotton and Taylor Sigmon are tied for the team lead in RBI with 16 while Sigmon also has 11 extra base hits.

The Western Carolina pitching staff is led by Jordan Garrett, pacing the team with nine wins and a 2.90 ERA while Sigmon and Mallory Broome have pitched in a combined 21 games. Garrett has tossed 11 complete games and been a part of three shutouts, two of which were complete games from the starter.
