BACK TO WORK
The Chattanooga Mocs return to campus this weekend and begin preparation for the 2013-14 campaign right away. Five returnees, a redshirt freshman and four newcomers vie for the five starting slots in the lineup. According to Head Coach Mark Guhne, there is open competition for each slot.

“You always have an idea of who you’re starting five is going to be,” Guhne noted. “We have four starters back who have a lot of experience. Every one of them has played at a high level, but as much as I like the five guys we have back, I am very excited about the five freshmen.

“This should be a very competitive year for playing time.”

ROSTER/SCHEDULE
Here are quick links to the 2013-14 roster and schedule pages on GoMocs.com:

Roster | Schedule

Chattanooga opens in a familiar place on Friday, September 6, at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic at the Farm just outside of Dalton, Ga. The Farm is an easy 30-minute trek from downtown Chattanooga and the event features a top-flight field every year. Dubbed “The Masters of Collegiate Golf”, this year’s tourney includes UTC, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Texas among the 14-team field.

FOX WINS TENNESSEE AMATEUR
Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) gets to spend another year as amateur champion. Instead of the U.S. Amateur Championship, he is the Tennessee Amateur Champion this year. He is the first Moc since Derek Rende (2007-10) in 2009 to win the tournament.

Fox fired remarkably consistent rounds of 68, 67, 68 and 67 for a 10-under par total of 270 at Chattanooga Golf & Country Club. He easily out-distanced Georgia’s Keith Mitchell and defending champion Tim Jackson.

Incoming freshman Andrew Weathers (Chattanooga, Tenn.) ended up tied for 35th after opening as the leader after a four-under par 66. He shot 289 for the event.

FORMER MOCS UPDATE
Three former Mocs are in the Knoxville News Sentinel Open on the Web.com Tour. Rende, Stephan Jaeger (2009-12) and Jonathan Hodge (2006-09) tackle Fox Den Country Club Thursday through Sunday, August 15-18.
