The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s tennis team posted four wins on day two of the UNCW Fall Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. Freshman Marcos Morelli (Pilar, Argentina) is in the finals of the Flight B Singles backdraw after scoring a win on Saturday.
Morelli defeated VCU’s Wilder Pimental (6-0, 7-6 (4))in the semifinals and will face UNCW’s Christiaan van der Burgh in Sunday’s finals.
Senior Jorge Varon (Valencia, Venezueal) is also still alive in the A brackdraw. He defeated Liberty’s Egon Samaai (6-2, 6-3) and takes on the Flames’ Shae Thomas on Sunday. Freshman Derrick Brown (Marietta, Ga.) will also be playing on Sunday. He faces UNCW’s Matt Kealy in the Flight D draw.
Brown and junior Pavels Grigorjevs (Riga, Latvia) won their doubles match on Saturday. They defeated N.C. Central’s Tamina Kienka and Jamal Hoyte (8-2) to advance to the Flight B doubles backdraw finals. They will face Liberty’s Stan Vaugh and Alejandro Llamas in Sunday’s finals.
The finals matches in doubles play are set for 9:30 a.m. (E.D.T.) on Sunday, Sept. 8. The singles matches are scheduled for 12:15 p.m. All action takes place at Empie Park in Wilmington, N.C. Be sure to check back to GoMocs.com for a full recap.
