MOCS MEN’S GOLF NOTEBOOK
Brickyard Collegiate | Round 2 | October 5, 2013
SECOND-BEST TOTAL OF 2013-14
Chattanooga’s 294 is the second-best 18-hole total of 2013-14. It’s one shot off the final round tally of 293 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.
THOMAS SHOOTS BEST ROUND TO DATE
Freshman Stuart Thomas carded his best 18 holes of his brief career today. Thomas had four birdies, 12 pars and two bogeys for a two-under 70. The 70 is two better than his previous low of 72 (E) in the second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
The four birdies are also a season best for the Knoxville native, while the 12 pars matches that high.
JOHNSTON A SHOT OUT OF TOP 10 AS AN INDIVIDUAL
Junior Liam Johnston is playing as an individual this weekend and is off to a great start. He followed up an opening round 70 with a one-under 71 today for a three-under total of 141. That’s one stroke off his best 36-hole mark of 140 (-4) at the 2012 Carpet Capital and 2013 Bayou City Collegiates.
Johnston is adding to his Brickyard at Riverside resume. In five rounds, 90 holes, his average is 72.0 strokes per round or level par. He's currently tied for 11th.
MOCS SOLID IN ROUND TWO
The counting cards posted two new bests with 46 pars and just two scores higher than bogey on Saturday. The 11 birdies were a step forward from round one’s eight. Thirteen bogeys ties the low set in the first and second rounds of the Golfweek event.
UTC tied its lowest high counting score of the season today with a 75 (2nd round Carpet Capital). It counted 70, 74, 75 and 75 while dropping a 77.
ANOTHER STRONG FINISH FOR A KNOXVILLE NATIVE
Yesterday, Wes Gosselin finished birdie-birdie on 17 and 18 to shoot 76. Davis Bunn did the flip side of that with birdies on eight and nine. Eight and nine were the finishing holes today after beginning the round on 10.
Bunn shot 74 as those birdies were his only ones of the day to go with 13 pars, two bogeys and a double.
