University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior Davis Tull was named to the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District team this week. It is the second straight year Tull has earned a spot on the academic all-district team.
The CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Teams are made up of student-athletes from eight regions across the country. UTC is in District 3 that includes all Division I programs (FBS & FCS) in Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia.
Nominees must be in at least their second year at an institution and have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point-average. CoSIDA members then vote on the all-district teams, based on academic and athletic performance.
Tull, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., carries a 3.52 grade-point-average in Health and Human Performance. He joins former teammate Adam Miller (2009-12) as the only Mocs to earn two CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. He was also on the Academic All-SoCon team as a sophomore in 2012.
In competition, Tull leads the SoCon with 9.0 sacks on the year. He has a UTC record 26.5 sacks in his career and is also tied for the SoCon lead with 13.0 tackles-for-loss.
The Mocs are 8-2 overall and have clinched at least a tie for the SoCon Championship at 6-1. It is the first league title for UTC since the 1984 season.
Chattanooga will try to win the SoCon outright, along with the automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs, next weekend at Samford. Kickoff against the Bulldogs is set for 3:00 p.m. (E.S.T.). The game will broadcast on the Mocs Sports Network on ESPN Radio 105.1 The Zone and on ESPN3.com.
