CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf program announces the addition of top Australian junior Zac Stolz. Stolz, a native of Brisbane, is joining the team in January according to Head Coach Mark Guhne.
“We are very excited about Zac,” Guhne noted. “He’s enrolling in January. The plan is for him to redshirt this spring and have four full years beginning in the fall.
“Judging by how he is playing right now, that’s going to require a lot of patience on our part.”
Guhne refers to Stolz qualifying for this weekend’s Australian Open. He is tied for 63rd after one round with his father Andre at one-over par 73. The dynamic duo has some work to do to catch leader Adam Scott at minus 10 (62). They are the first father-son duo since Gary and Wayne Player in 1979 to play in the event.
Stolz has six top 10’s over the past two years. He finished tied for second and third in the past two Harvey Norman Juniors and was fourth and seventh in the two most recent City of Sydney Amateurs. In 2012, he was tied for fifth at the New South Wales Amateur and tied for seventh at the Australian Boys.
He comes from a golfing family. His father Andre has won on the PGA (1 win), Nationwide (1, now Web.com), Japan (1), PGA Tour of Australasia (5) and OneAsia Tours (2). His PGA Tour win came in 2004 at the Michelin Championship of Las Vegas by one over Tom Lehman, Harrison Frazar and Tag Ridings.
“Obviously Zac has learned about championship golf from his father,” Guhne added. “It’s a great family. Zac is going to be a great addition to our roster.”
