Freshman Ewan Scott looks to build on his impressive fall finish at the prestigious Jones Cup
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---Chattanooga Mocs freshman sensation Ewan Scott (St. Andrews, Scotland) is headed to Sea Island, Ga., for the prestigious Jones Cup. The event is 54 holes played Friday through Sunday, January 31-February 2 at Ocean Forest Golf Club.
“Ewan had to qualify for the event and earned his way in,” Head Coach Mark Guhne stated. “It was a tough field to get into and he played up to the challenge. It will be a fun weekend to keep tabs on.
"It's a really hard golf course and a great test for a championship."
This is the fourth consecutive year the Mocs have had an entry in the Jones Cup and fifth in six years. All-Americans Stephan Jaeger (2011 & 2012) and Jonathan Hodge (2009) played here, as well as U.S. Amateur Champion Steven Fox (2011 & 2013) and current top 10 collegian Liam Johnston (2013). Johnston tied for 37th last year, while Fox tied for 44th.
Scott got off to a slow start in his collegiate career but played in all five fall events. He notched top 10’s in the last two including tying for third at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. He ended with four straight rounds under par and played his final 108 holes (6 rounds) nine-under par.
“Ewan start can be attributed with his 2013 amateur schedule,” Guhne added. “When he got here, he had played a lot of golf and at a high level. His summer was made up of top men’s events, and then he jumped right into a new country, culture and the college season. Once he got settled in, he was fantastic.”
