Mocs End Up 7th at Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team finished seventh Tuesday at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The Mocs ended the 54-hole event at 878 after today’s 296 on the Magnolia Grove Crossings Course.

“Definitely disappointed in how we played, but there were positives,” Head Coach Mark Guhne stated. “I really challenged Davis Bunn heading into the spring and he responded missing the top 10 by one. He just didn’t get enough help.”

Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) ended up tied for 11th at one-under par 215. He followed up his opening rounds of 72 with a 71 today. He birdied holes four, five, six and eight to get to four-under early before a double bogey derailed the train on nine. The five birdies on his final card are the most since registering six in the season-opening 18 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.

Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) also turned in a one-under 71 today. His total of 220 (+4) tied for 20th. Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) and Wes Gosselin (Knoxville) rounded out the counting scores with 77’s.

Auburn won with a six-under par 858. That was six better than Kentucky and seven clear of third-place Memphis. Wake Forest’s Clancy Waugh started the day tied for third at minus two, but his four-under 68 earned medalist honors finishing at six under (210). Auburn’s Niclas Carlsson was runner-up at 212, while five golfers shared third-place at 213.

Brooks Thomas (Chattanooga, Tenn.) led Chattanooga’s individual contingent of four entered in the USA Individual played at the same time at Magnolia Grove Falls Course.. Brooks ended up in seventh shooting 224. Stuart Thomas (Knoxville) tied for eighth at 225. Zac Sotlz (Sydney, Australia) tied for 17th at 288, two ahead of Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) in 20th (230).

The Mocs are back on the tee in two weeks traveling to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They begin the Querencia Cabo Collegiate March 2 at Querencia Golf Club with three days of 18 holes finishing March 4.
