Tuesday at the Masters with Steven Fox

AUGUSTA, Ga. --- It’s the first official day of Masters Week 2013 and Chattanooga Mocs senior Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) is certainly soaking it all in. He’s providing a diary for Masters.com while his caddy, former Mocs star Ben Rickett, is keeping tabs with the Chattanooga Times Free Press for one as well.

UTC golf publicist Jim Horten chronicles the week here daily. Links to stories around the web on Fox and Chattanooga ties are below. We’ll also take a look at Fox’s favorite moments, holes and his thoughts as well.

THE INSIDE SCOOP – INTERESTING TRIO FOR PAR 3 CONTEST
Fox reached out to fellow Tennessean Brandt Snedeker to play a practice round. Instead, the duo is paired together in the Par 3 contest on Wednesday. The third? No other than English star Luke Donald. Donald is No. 4 in the world while Snedeker is No. 5. That’s a feature pairing in any round but shines in the Par 3 contest.

GoMocs.com got the opportunity to chat briefly with Snedeker. He talked about what a good guy Steven is. The way he has taken Steven under his wing, clearly that’s the pot calling the kettle black.

A FOX FAVORITE – HOLE NO. 16
The 16th hole is one of the iconic holes when it comes to Sunday afternoons at Augusta. Amen Corner gets all the publicity, but 16 not only has its special moments in Masters lore, but it is the place to be during practice rounds.

It has quite possibly the largest gallery on the course due to a simple tradition. During the practice rounds, players hit their regular efforts into the green. Afterwards, they take a walk to the front of the tee box and attempt to skip shots off the water and onto the green. Amazing roars echo throughout the course for those who reach the green and get exceptionally load for the ones who get near the hole.

“The crowd is out of control, in a good way,” said Fox. “It is a great atmosphere. I really cannot say enough how phenomenal the crowd support is here in Augusta.”

For the record, Fox hit the green both times on Monday but unfortunately did not skip off the water.

TUESDAY’S PRACTICE ROUND
Fox found himself in quite a group. He had planned his day for a round with Henrik Stenson, one of the true good guys on tour. Then along came British Am Champ Alan Dunbar and lo and behold, former U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell took the tee as well. Quite the memorable pairing for the U.S. Amateur Champ. Interesting side note, former Mocs golfer Gareth Lord is the caddy for Stenson.
