The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team returns home for a Southern Conference match against UNC Greensboro on Saturday, March 16. Action begins at 1:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) on the UTC Tennis Courts and a link for live scoring is available on the men's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
The Mocs are currently 6-5 overall and 1-1 in SoCon action. UTC is looking to snap its only two-match losing streak of the spring while the Spartans are 7-1 overall. UNCG dropped its first match of the season on Thursday, a 4-3 defeat at No. 61 Samford. The Spartans are 2-1 in SoCon action.
The Mocs have won two of the last three in the series, including last year's 4-3 win in Greensboro, N.C. on March 11. Chris Smith (Johnson City, Tenn.) won a three-set match at No. 3 to clinch last year's win.
Senior Manuel Barroetavena (Buenos Aires, Argentina) is currently 8-3 in spring action and has seen time in each of the top three singles slots. He has settled in at No. 2 where he is 3-2.
Senior Ankit Chopra (Chandigrah, India) has won two-straight singles matches. He is 5-4 in the spring and 10-8 overall.
Barroetavena also has a 6-2 record in doubles, teaming with fellow senior Jackson Tresnan (Apopka, Fla.). Tresnan is 6-4 in spring singles, playing the No. 5 or No. 6 positions, but is looking to snap a four-match slide.
Head coach Carlos Garcia is in his 12th season at UTC, posting a 124-142 overall record. UTC has increased its win total in each of the last three seasons. The 14-9 mark in 2012 was the best record for the program since 2007.
The Mocs also set a program record with a 3.46 team grade-point-average in the fall. All nine members of the team made the Athletics Director's Honor Roll with a 3.0+ semester g.p.a., while seven made the Dean's List.
