The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s tennis team wrapped up play at the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic today at the Champions Club. Sophomore Luke Saunders (Halifax, Nova Scotia) led the Mocs with a win in the finals of the No. 3 consolation bracket.
Saunders scored a win (6-4, 6-3) over ETSU’s Umberto Setter in today’s consolation finals at No. 3. Setter entered the weekend as the No. 2 seed in the third draw.
Freshmen Marcos Morelli (Pilar, Argentina) and Austin Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga.) also ended the weekend on a strong note. They won the No.4 doubles back draw, defeating a mixed team of Lipscomb’s Nacor Ibanez and Abilene Christian’s Michael Morris (8-6).
“This was another great weekend and a great tournament,” stated Carlos Garcia. “Luke Saunders had a good win today and it was nice to see the freshmen end on a positive note in doubles. We learned a lot about where we are as a team this weekend and where we need to improve.”
The Mocs don’t get much time off before their next event. UTC travels to the Winthrop Fall Invitational this weekend. Action takes place in Winthrop, S.C., on Oct. 5-6. Be sure to check back to GoMocs.com for complete results and recaps.
