The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s tennis team hosts two matches this weekend. The Mocs continue Southern Conference action on Saturday, March 8, against The Citadel and welcome Alabama State in non-conference play on Sunday, March 9.
The Citadel match is part of a doubleheader with the women’s team at the Champions Club. The women face Georgia Southern, and both matches get underway at Noon (E.S.T.).
Be sure to set your clocks forward Saturday night so you don’t miss Sunday’s first serve at Noon against Alabama State. The match with the Hornets will take place on campus at the UTC Tennis Courts.
Chattanooga is 2-7 overall and 0-2 in SoCon matches. Sophomore John Peacey leads the team with eight singles wins on the year. Sophomore Gino Delavalle has been the strongest in spring play, posting a 3-4 mark at No. 4. Peacey and senior Jorge Varon have made a solid doubles team. They are 4-4 at No. 1 in dual matches.
The Mocs are 26-4 all-time against The Citadel, including winners in each of the last four meetings. UTC has never lost to the Bulldogs in Chattanooga, holding a 14-0 record at home since the series began 1978.
Alabama State is 3-6 overall and 2-0 in SWAC action. This is the first meeting between the Mocs and Alabama State.
