The tennis teams hope to reverse trends against Elon Saturday in Southern Conference matches for both teams.

The men’s team suffered a 6-0 loss to the Phoenix in the 2007 regular season and was eliminated by eventual champion Elon, 4-0 in the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament last year.  The women’s squad dropped a slim 4-3 decision to the Phoenix in last year’s meeting.

Both Chattanooga teams host Elon Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Champion’s Club in Hixson.

The Mocs, 8-1, carry a seven-match winning streak into the match.  In fact, the men’s team did not lose a match in the month of February and have only given up one team point in the last three matches.

Junior Peter Sauska remains undefeated in singles at 8-0, playing all but one match at the No. 3 position.  Fellow junior Pavel Vostrikov is 8-1 at the No. 3 and 4 positions and has won seven straight.

The Phoenix are 5-3 overall and will be playing their SoCon opener as well.  Elon’s losses have come to Duke, Old Dominion and South Carolina.

The Lady Mocs are 4-4 on the year and got a head start to the conference season last weekend, falling at Davidson, 7-0.

Senior Lindsey Ballard continues to lead the squad with her 6-2 mark at No. 1 singles.  Freshmen Annie Green and Arianna Sanjines have four wins apiece.

The Elon women’s squad is 5-4 overall with victories over Winston-Salem State, North Carolina Central, Radford, Barton, North Carolina A&T and Charlotte.

The Mocs went 5-4 in the SoCon last season, while the Lady Mocs were 2-7.

There is no admission charge at the Champion’s Club.
