CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Junior Peter Sauska (Budapest, Hungary) and senior Badr Bouabdellah (Barcelona, Spain) each took their singles matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots but it would not be enough as Appalachian State (9-6, 2-2) dominated spots 3-6 in singles and swept all three doubles matches to down Chattanooga (10-7, 1-5) 5-2 in a Southern Conference men’s tennis match Friday at the Champions Club in Hixson, Tenn.

Sauska opened singles play by defeating Bobby Lake by scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 and Bouabdellah followed with a straight sets victory, 7-5, 6-4, over Ryan Brookshaw to get the Mocs off to a strong start. Appalachian State then came alive, posting four straight singles wins with Trent Constance defeating senior Razvan Axente (Brailia, Romania) 6-3, 6-0, and Lee Floyd dropping junior Pavel Vostrikov (Orenburg, Russia) 7-5, 6-4. Peter Jacobs and David Doverspike rounded out singles play as they defeated freshman Hasan Hamadeh (Memphis, Tenn.) and freshman Robert Diamond (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), respectively.

The Mountaineers extended their lead in doubles play as the tandem of Lake and Constance downed Bouabdella and Vostrikov 8-2 before Jacobs and Lee posted an 8-3 victory over Sauska and Hamadeh to claim the doubles point. Doverspike and Brookshaw closed out doubles action with an 8-5 decision over Axente and Diamond for a sweep.

Chattanooga will continue their three-match homestand on Sunday, March 30 when they host Furman at 1:00 p.m.
