The men’s tennis team heads to Charleston, S.C., to compete in the 2008 Southern Conference Tennis Championships.

The Mocs, the SoCon’s eighth seed, will take on ninth-seeded the College of Charleston Thursday at noon.  The match will be played at the City of Charleston’s Farmfield Courts.

Chattanooga, 12-9 on the year, edged the Cougars, 4-3 on March 10 in Charleston.  In that victory, the Mocs won the doubles point and recorded singles wins at the first, third and sixth positions by senior Badr Bouabdellah, junior Peter Sauska and freshman Robert Diamond respectively.

Head Coach Carlos Garcia has tweaked the singles lineup since that meeting.  Sauska now plays at the No. 1 spot, with Bouabdellah moving to No. 2.  Senior Razvan Axente plays at No. 3, and junior Pavel Vostrikov lines up at the fourth position.  Hasan Hamadeh is the fifth singles player, joining fellow freshman Diamond who plays at No. 6.

Freshman Rick van de Bovenkamp is a possibility in the doubles lineup.

College of Charleston, 7-16, 1-8, enters the tournament on a two-match losing skid and has dropped eight of its last nine matches.

The winner of the Mocs-Cougars matchup will face top-seeded Furman Friday at 8:30 a.m.

Elon, the second seed, is the defending champion and ousted Chattanooga last year in the semifinals.
