Chattanooga earned the doubles point when freshmen Ryan Pool and Roberto Viera closed out the No. 1 spot with a 7-2 tiebreaker win. Freshmen Chris Smith and Stephen Crofford jumped out to a lead early at No. 2 but could not hold on, dropping the first doubles match 8-5.
In singles play, the Terriers got right back into the contest with a 6-2, 6-3 win from Tom Wood over Parfitt at No. 5. Roberto Viera took No. 1 shortly after, with just as dominating of a win, defeating Tinus Van Wyk 6-2, 6-1. It was just Viera's third match of the season at the No. 1 position, and he improved to 2-1 at the top spot. He also moved to .500, 6-6, in dual match action this year.
Wofford took the next two matches - each in straight sets - to move within one of the decisive fourth point. Stuart Robinson defeated Pool at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2. Manoli Lakis followed that with a win over Disterdick at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4.
The two remaining matches went back and forth before Mocs freshman Jackson Tresnan finally relented in a long two set match. Michael Schecter took the No. 4 spot and earned the deciding point in the match, 6-3, 6-3, although it was much more hard-fought than the scores indicate.
To close out the afternoon, Smith defeated Paul Bartholomy to make the final score 4-3 in favor of the Terriers. The win for Smith improved his team-best singles record to 10-11.
The Mocs are back in action tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. (E.D.T.) against Furman on the UTC Tennis Courts. The match will be preceded by the Lady Mocs, who are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. Live scoring will be available for both matches on GoMocs.com.
