All three doubles contests took an extra game to decide, beginning with sophomore William Disterdick (Hixson, Tenn.) and freshman Trent Cobb's (Melbourne, Australia) 9-7 loss at No. 2. The loss snapped a three-match run for the Mocs duo.
Sophomores Stephen Crofford (Franklin, Tenn.) and Jackson Tresnan (Apopka, Fla.) were down 6-2 in their battle at No. 3 with UNCG's Chanon Varapongsittikul and Ahmet Sarioglu. They stormed back to even the doubles competition with a 9-7 win.
Sophomores Chris Smith and Roberto Vieira clinched the point with a 9-7 win at No. 1, improving to a team-high 8-3. It was the sixth consecutive doubles point for UTC.
Unfortunately for Chattanooga, it could not keep the momentum going. The Spartans took all six singles in straight sets to improve to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in Southern Conference action. With the loss, UTC drops to 6-7 and 1-1 in the SoCon.
Chattanooga will be back in action on Friday, March 18 when it hosts The Citadel. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) on the UTC Tennis Courts.
