Mocs Tennis Teams Fall to Jacksonville State Saturday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women’s tennis team fell 5-2 to Jacksonville State and the Mocs dropped a 5-2 decision as well to the Gamecocks Saturday afternoon at the Hixson Racquet Club.

 

Jacksonville State (4-1) swept the doubles point in women’s action to go up 1-0 on the Lady Mocs. In singles action, the Lady Mocs claimed a pair wins.

 

Chattanooga’s (2-6) Jennemieke van der Veek posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Juliana Renesto at the No. 2 position and Emily Hangstefer defeated Raphaela Wenzel 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.

 

Brianna Wishing dropped her first set at no. 5 by a 6-3 margin then came back to tie it up with a 6-2 decision in the second game before falling 6-3 in the final.

 

Martina Desbessel defeated Shaina Singh 7-6(3), 6-0 at the No. 1 position and Eloah Lopes claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win over Annie Green at No. 4. Kristen Fuller got past Brianna Wishing in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 and Laura Lunch defeated Kate Ksiezopolski 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6.

 

In men’s action, the Gamecocks (5-0) won all three doubles matches to gain the point and take a1-0 lead into singles play.

 

The Mocs (1-5) posted wins at the top two spots. Peter Sauska defeated Scott Robertson 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position and Pavel Vostrikov posted a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Eduardo Saratt.

 

Jacksonville State’s Bernardo Bachino defeated Rick van de Bovenkmap in straight sets at No. 3 and Gustavo Holz defated Alex Butnarcuic 7-6 (3), 6-2 at No. 4. JSU’s Chris Duke posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Dakota Pate and Steffan Solomon defeated Gordon Rudell 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 position.

 

The Mocs will travel to Birmingham Friday, Feb. 20 to take on UAB and the women’s will face the Trailblazers on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Bears clinched the first victory of the day 5-4, while the Mocs claimed the second game, 8-2. With two games accounted for, Mercer would take the series with an 8-0 triumph in the third game of the day.
