Tennis Hits the Road for Weekend Competitions

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga men’s and women’s tennis teams will be on the road for Southern Conference competition this weekend.

 

On Saturday, the Lady Mocs will take on Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga., while the Mocs will be in Spartanburg, S.C. to face Wofford.

 

The Lady Mocs are 5-11 on the year and 1-5 in league action. The Eagles are 11-5 overall and 5-2 in league play. Jennemieke van der Veek is 8-8 overall for the Lady Mocs with a 4-4 mark at the No. 2 position.

 

Georgia Southern’s Melanie Rollie is undefeated with an 11-0 mark at the No. 4 position and is 13-2 overall. She is 7-0 against SoCon opponents. At the No. 2 position for Georgia Southern, Ali Beavers has posted an overall record of 10-4 and is 4-3 against conference opponents.

 

The Mocs are 1-14 overall and still looking for a league win at 0-7. Seniors Peter Sauska and Pavel Vostrikov are 7-5 in doubles play with a 5-2 conference mark. Sauska is 6-9 at the No. 1 position this season and Vostrikov is 7-8 at the No. 2 spot. Both are 3-4 in league play.

 

The Terriers are 9-9 overall and 3-2 against the conference. Danny Manlow has an overall mark of 10-6 with a 6-4 mark at No. 2 and is 4-1 in league play. Tinus van Wyk is 10-5 overall with an 8-4 record at the No. 4 spot with a 4-1 league record. Paul Bartholomy and Alan Donald are 11-5, playing a majority of No. 2 matches with a 3-2 league mark.

 

The Lady Mocs match at Georgia Southern is slated to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday and the men are to start at 2 p.m. Sunday.
