Tennis Sweeps Past Tennessee Wesleyan

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga men’s and women’s tennis teams swept Tennessee Wesleyan on a blustery Tuesday afternoon. Both teams posted 6-1 wins over the Bulldogs as the women honored their lone senior Beata Knizat prior to the match.

 

The women claimed the doubles point with a pair of wins to go up 1-0 over Wesleyan. Annie Green and Jennemieke van der Veek won a marathon match at the No. 1 doubles position defeating Zolzava Enkhbat and Karolina Pierko 8-7(7-3). Emily Hangstefer and Kate Ksiezopolski teamed up at No. 2 gaining an 8-2 win over Kayla Foster and Jessica Robinson while Charlotte Bossy and Shaina Singh earned an 8-0 shutout over Spencer Creekmore and Shelley Williams at No. 3.

 

The Lady Mocs won five of their six singles matches beginning with Singh’s 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3, van der Veek also earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Foster and Green won in straight sets as well at No. 5 over Williams. Bossy posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot over Robinson and Brianna Wishing defeated Creekmore 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.

 

The Lady Bulldogs lone win on the day came at No. 1. Pierko posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Hangstefer in her first competition at the top spot. The Lady Mocs improve to 7-13 overall and will close out the regular season Friday afternoon in Boone, N.C., against the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a 2 p.m. match.

 

The Mocs started their match sweeping the doubles matches from the Bulldogs. Seniors Pavel Vostrikov and Peter Sauska teamed up for their 10th win of the season defeating Eric Chastain and Cody Gaby 8-2. Alex Butnarcuic and Dakota Pate posted an 8-5 win over Guilherme Cervezio and Giovanni Santos at the No. 2 spot while Gordon Rudell and Rick van de Bovenkamp defeated Neal Baldwin and Tanner Stancil 8-6 at No. 3.

 

In singles action, the Mocs won five of the six matches. Sauska started it off claiming a 6-4, 6-0 win over Gaby at No. 1. At No. 2, Vostrikov defeated Santos 6-1, 6-0 and van de Bovenkamp earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Chastain. Dakota Pate defeated Baldwin 7-6, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot while Sam Parfitt rounded out the match for the Mocs with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot over George Pannell.

 

The Bulldogs lone win on the day was at the No. 3 spot. Cervezio defeated Butnarcuic 6-2, 6-4. The Mocs improve to 2-16 overall. Chattanooga will close out the regular season this Saturday at home against the Georgia Southern Eagles. Chattanooga will honor senior Peter Sauska and Pavel Vostrikov prior to the Noon match.
