University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis standout Kaylene Chadwell was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year today.  Chadwell, a native of Franklin, Tenn., is the fourth Lady Moc to win the award in school history and the second in the last three years.  Teammate Jenna Nurik also won the honor in 2010 and was named to the All-SoCon First Team this afternoon.

Chadwell led Chattanooga with an 8-2 record in SoCon action.  She was 22-10 overall and 15-5 in spring dual matches.  Chadwell has won eight in a row and 12 of her last 14 singles matches.  She also led the team with a 24-9 mark as a doubles player and was twice named the SoCon Player of the Week during the regular season.

Nurik had a team-high 23-11 singles record, putting her on the All-SoCon team for the third-straight year.  The junior from Roswell, Ga., was a first team selection as a freshman and made the second team last season.  She was 5-5 in SoCon matches and 14-6 playing No. 1 in all of the spring duals.

Nurik and Chadwell led the Lady Mocs to a 15-5 overall record, tying for fourth place at 6-4 in the SoCon.  The 15 wins are the most for UTC since going 17-6 in 1999.  The six SoCon wins and fourth place finish are the best for Chattanooga since logging the same numbers in 2001.

The Lady Mocs are set to face Samford in the SoCon Tournament on Friday, April 20.  Match time is set for 10:30 a.m. (E.D.T.) at The Citadel.  Links for live scoring and other tournament information is available on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
