UTC travels to Boone, N.C., for the SoCon opener against Appalachian State on Friday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.). UTC returns home on Sunday, March 3, to host Western Carolina. The Mountaineers are 7-2 overall and led by senior Ellie Linsell's 8-0 record at No. 1. Their two losses came against East Carolina (3-4) and last week against East Tennessee State (1-6). They are coming off a 7-0 win over Presbyterian on Sunday. Chattanooga won last year's match 6-1 on the UTC Tennis Courts.
The Catamounts are 1-3 on the year with a 5-2 win over Presbyterian College. The Lady Mocs won the previous meeting 7-0 in Cullowhee, N.C. on April 6, 2012.
The Lady Mocs have been dominating opponents, only allowing two points in the first eight contests. Chattanooga is 46-2 in singles and has lost a total of eight sets in those 48 matches. UTC is also an impressive 18-3 in doubles.
UTC's 8-0 start is the best for the program since opening the 1991 campaign 10-0. The current winning streak included a school-record run of five consecutive shutouts.
The Lady Mocs are led by senior Jenna Nurik (Roswell, Ga.), who is off to an 8-0 start in singles action. Nurik is trying to become the first Lady Mocs to be named All-SoCon for four straight years.
Sophomore Claire Mulyadi (Semarang, Indonesia) and freshmen Kayla Jones (Memphis, Tenn.) are also 8-0 in singles. Junior Alexa Flynn (Memphis, Tenn.) is undefeated in three matches while sophomore Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin, Tenn.) and has a 7-1 record.
Jones and freshman Kelsey Coots (Huntsville, Ala.) lead the way in doubles with a 5-1 mark at No. 1. Chadwell and Nurik are also 5-1 at No. 2 and 10-2 overall.
