Chattanooga Travels to No. 27 Tennessee Sunday

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis team hits the road this weekend for another tough task at No. 27 Tennessee.  This is the second ranked opponent for the Mocs in as many weekends.

Chattanooga is off to a 4-1 start, including wins over Austin Peay (7-0), Lipscomb (7-0), Evansville (7-0) and Murray State (4-2).  The lone loss was last weekend at No. 33 Memphis (0-4). 

Tennessee is ranked No. 27 in the most recent ITA poll.  The Vols are 1-2 overall and will host Georgia Tech on Saturday and Belmont on Sunday, Feb. 16, before facing the Mocs at 4:00 p.m. (E.S.T.).

“We are looking forward to heading to Knoxville to face a top-30 team,” stated head coach Jeff Clark.  “I think we showed last weekend that we can compete with the top teams in the country and this will be another tough test.”    

Chattanooga is facing Tennessee for the first time since the 1984 season.  UTC is 3-5 all-time against the Vols, including wins in the previous two meetings in the series.

UTC has three individuals undefeated in singles play this spring.  Juniors Kaylene Chadwell and Claire Mulyadi and sophomore Alison Storie are all 4-0 to start the season.  Chadwell plays No. 2, while Mulyadi and Storie are five and six, respectively. 

Sophomore Kayla Jones is 3-2 at No. 1, while senior Alexa Flynn is 4-1 at No. 3.  Sophomore Kelsey Coots rounds out the singles lineup with a 3-1 mark at No. 4. 

Chadwell and Jones are 3-1 at No. 1 doubles, followed by Coots and Flynn’s 3-2 record at No. 2.  Mulyadi and freshman Rachele Gazzola are 2-1 at No. 3. 

Tennessee freshman Eve Repic is 1-2 at No. 1 and currently ranked No. 63 in the nation.
