Women's Tennis Sweeps Tuesday Doubleheader

The result was the same in each match as the Lady Mocs, 8-15, claimed the doubles point and five of six singles matches against each squad.
The early match against Kennesaw State was highlighted by Anastasia Zhukova’s 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles over Mercedes Cobos. Zhukova, nationally ranked at No. 39 this week, registered her 18th and 19th 6-love sets of the season.
Also recording singles victories for UTC were Lindsey Ballard at No. 2, Beata Knizat at No. 3, Bonnie Adams and No. 4 and Celeste Nicholson at No. 6. Knizat and Nicholson were taken to a third-set superbreaker.
Carolina Page picked up the Owls’ lone point of the match, defeating freshman Kate Ksiezopolski at No. 5, 6-3, 6-2. KSU fell to 4-17 overall.
Tennessee Tech spotted UTC two team points right off the bat, as only four members of the Golden Eagles’ squad were available to compete.
The Lady Mocs swept the doubles portion of the match, including a default at No. 3. The top four singles matches were competed. Zhukova beat Margot Carter, 6-3, 6-2, Ballard posted a 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 win over Amy Anstey and Knizat moved down to No. 4 and defeated Evgenia Yartseva, 6-2, 6-0.
Tech, 4-17, defaulted at No. 5 and 6 singles, and Marina Ruiz got past Adams, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.
UTC closes out the home portion of the schedule with another doubleheader Thursday. The Lady Mocs host Jacksonville State at 11:30 a.m. at the Champion’s Club and take on Western Carolina at 3:30 p.m. in a Southern Conference match at the UTC Tennis Complex.
Thursday marks the last home appearance for Zhukova, UTC’s lone senior.
