Thursday marks the final home appearance for senior Anastasia Zhukova, one of the most decorated players in the history of the women’s program. Zhukova, currently ranked 39th nationally by the FILA ITA Intercollegiate Tennis rankings, boasts a 68-9 singles record over her two-year UTC career.
That mark includes an impressive 43-3 dual match record during the past two spring seasons. She has won 14 of her last 15 matches and brings an 18-2 record into Thursday’s action.
“We are hoping for a decent crowd to watch our final home matches and to pay a tribute to Anastasia,” UTC Head Coach Tom Lowry said. “We are excited about the possibility that her season will continue after the upcoming SoCon Championships. With her ranking, she has an excellent shot at an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, and that will be a first for this league.”
The Lady Mocs swept a doubleheader from Kennesaw State and Tennessee Tech Tuesday and are 8-15 on the year and 1-6 in the SoCon.
Also expected to be in UTC’s lineup are juniors Bonnie Adams and Lindsey Ballard, sophomores Samantha Duggan and Beata Knizat and freshman Kate Ksiezopolski.
Jacksonville State, out of the Ohio Valley Conference, is 8-13 overall entering the match. Western Carolina has a 5-12 overall record and is winless in eight conference matches.
