Lady Mocs Host Three Matches This Week

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team returns home to host three matches this week.  The Lady Mocs are looking to snap a two-match slide following last week's Spring Break trip to Florida that resulted in losses to Stetson (0-7) and Rollins (3-6). 

Chattanooga welcomes Lee University on Wednesday, March 23, at 2:00 p.m. (E.D.T.).  The Lady Mocs then take on Southern Conference opponents Wofford and Furman on Saturday, March 26, and Sunday, March 27, respectively.  Match time against the Terriers is set for 1:00 p.m. on the UTC Tennis Courts while the contest against the Paladins begins at 2:00 p.m. at the Champions Club., the official website of Chattanooga Athletics, will have live scoring available for all of the Lady Mocs' home matches this spring.  Links to the live scoring for this week's matches are available on the women's tennis schedule page on 

UTC is currently 5-6 overall and 2-1 in Southern Conference action.  Chattanooga had won three in a row before losing to the Hatters and the Tars last week. 

Sophomore Jenna Nurik (Roswell, Ga.), the 2010 SoCon Freshman of the Year, has won four of her last five singles matches at No. 1 and is 6-5 in spring action at the top spot.  She is also one of three Lady Mocs in double-figures with an 11-10 record on the year. 

Freshman Alexa Flynn (Memphis, Tenn.) leads the team with a 12-7 singles record, but has dropped three in a row.  Junior Emily Hangstefer (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) is also trying to snap a two-match slide and is 7-13 overall. 

Junior Shaina Singh (Vancouver, B.C.) is the third Lady Moc with 10 wins.  She lost both matches last week at No. 4 and is now 10-11 on the season.  Fellow junior Charlotte Bossy (Koekelare, Belgium) has won three of four and is 4-2 at No. 5.  Freshman Diana Zora (Barrancabermeja, Colombia) was in the lineup for the first time this spring, losing both of her matches at No. 6 last week. 

Nurik and Singh make up UTC's top doubles team.  They have won five straight and are 8-3 in the spring, 13-5 overall. 

Lee has a 4-1 record after losing to Brenau University in their last match on March 21.  Wofford is 10-7 overall and 2-1 in SoCon action.  The Terriers are coached by Katie Hangstefer, the old sister of Lady Mocs junior Emily Hangstefer

The Paladins bring a 5-8 overall mark, including a 2-0 SoCon record.  They will travel to Samford on Saturday, before visiting Chattanooga for Sunday's match.
