UTC is guaranteed at least one title tomorrow with Polk (Woodstock, Ga.) and Coots (Huntsville, Ala.) facing each other in the No. 4 finals. Polk defeated Mercer's Heffner (7-5, 6-1) while Coots dropped Samford's Mallory (6-4, 6-4) in today's semis. Jones (Memphis, Tenn.) advanced to the finals of the No. 5 Flight with a (7-5, 6-4) win over Samford's Lyon.
The Lady Mocs also have three doubles tandems in Sunday's finals, led by senior Jenna Nurik (Roswell, Ga.) and sophomore Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin, Tenn.) in the No. 1 Flight. Ranked No. 58 in the nation, Nurik and Chadwell battled Lipscomb's Welcher and Borck to an 8-8 tie. They won the match (7-3) in a tiebreaker and will face Kennesaw State's Apostu and Stein in the finals at 8:30 a.m. (E.D.T.) Sunday.
Jones and junior Alexa Flynn (Memphis, Tenn.) breezed into the finals of the No. 2 draw. They posted an 8-2 win over Kennesaw State's Hueckinghaus and Plocher and will face Samford's Lewis and Lochner for the title.
Coots and Polk took out Samford Lyon and Mallory 8-5 in the semifinals of the No. 3 draw. They will go against UAb's Lowther and Simon in the finals. Nurik, Flynn and freshman Claire Mulyadi (Semarang, Indonesia) will play for third place in the No. 1, 2 and 3 singles flights tomorrow.
