The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team looks to extend its best start since 1991 when it travels to UAB and hosts Jacksonville State this week. The Lady Mocs are 6-0 on the season and have posted a school-record five consecutive shutouts.

UAB is off to an impressive 5-1 start under first-year head coach Lisa Jackson. The Blazers visit cross-town rival Samford on Wednesday, before hosting the Lady Mocs. Both teams have faced Kennesaw State and Middle Tennessee, with UAB scoring a 5-2 win over the Owls on Feb. 1 and 4-3 loss at MTSU on Feb. 10. UTC beat Kennesaw State 6-1 in the season opener on Jan. 25 and defeated MTSU 7-0 on Feb. 1
UAB Senior Isabel Fernandez and sophomore Rachel Daniell lead the team with a combined 12-0 record in singles play. Daniell has won in straight-sets in each of her victories, playing mostly at No. 2.
Chattanooga returns home to host Jacksonville State on Saturday, Feb. 23. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) on the UTC Tennis Courts. A link for live scoring is available on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
JSU is 3-4 overall and visits Mercer on Feb. 19 before traveling to Chattanooga. Zoe Bizinos and Olivia Nguyen lead the team with a 4-2 singles mark. UTC scored a 7-0 win over Jacksonville State in last year's meeting on March 1 at the Champions Club in Chattanooga.
UTC head coach Jeff Clark is in the sixth year of his second stint with the Lady Mocs. He guided the team to a 43-27 record in his first term at Chattanooga from 1999-01. He now has a nine-year career record of 101-84.
The Lady Mocs have been dominating opponents, only allowing one point in the first six contests. Chattanooga is 35-1 in singles and has lost a total of six sets in those 36 matches. UTC is also an impressive 15-3 in doubles.
The Lady Mocs are led by senior Jenna Nurik (Roswell, Ga.), who off to a 6-0 start in singles action. Sophomore Claire Mulyadi (Semarang, Indonesia) and freshmen Kayla Jones (Memphis, Tenn.) and Kelsey Coots (Huntsville, Ala.) are also 6-0 in singles. Junior Alexa Flynn (Memphis, Tenn.) is undefeated in three matches while sophomore Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin, Tenn.) has a 5-1 record.
Flynn and freshman Katie Polk (Woodstock, Ga.) lead the way in doubles with a 3-0 mark while Nurik and Chadwell are 5-1. Coots and Jones are also 5-1 in the spring.WRCBtv.com | Chattanooga News, Weather
