Mocs Host Lipscomb & Evansville

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis team opens its 2014 home schedule with a pair of matches this weekend.  UTC hosts Lipscomb on Friday, Jan. 31, and Evansville on Sunday, Feb. 2, at McCallie’s Strang-Voges Tennis Center.  Live scoring links for both matches are available on the women’s tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.

First serve against the Bison is set for 5:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) Friday.  Sunday’s match with the Purple Aces starts at Noon.  Evansville and Lipscomb will also play a neutral match at McCallie at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

UTC won its season-opener on the road last weekend with a 7-0 shutout at Austin Peay.  Lipscomb sits at 2-0 with wins over UT-Martin (4-3) and Belmont (6-1) during its opening weekend.  Evansville is 0-1 after falling at Middle Tennessee 4-3 on Saturday.

Sophomore Kayla Jones leads Chattanooga with a 10-3 overall singles record this season.  Junior Kaylene Chadwell was in the lineup at No. 2 at Austin Peay last week, followed by senior Alexa Flynn and sophomore Kelsey Coots

Coots was a second-team All-SoCon pick in 2013.  Both Coots and Jones made the SoCon All-Freshman squad.

Junior Claire Mulyadi and sophomore Alison Storie rounded out the top-6 in last week’s win at Austin Peay.

Jeff Clark is in the sixth year of his second stint as head coach of the Lady Mocs tennis program.  He coached UTC's men's and women's programs for three year from 1999-01, and returned to UTC to take over the women's team in 2008.  His career mark with the women currently stands at 114-89 in just over nine seasons overall.

Clark has five of his top six, and eight of nine letter winners, back from last year’s team that went 18-6.  That was the most wins for the program since 1991.  The Mocs also finished fifth in the Southern Conference with a 6-4 league mark.
