CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team announced Thursday the signing of Lauren Greenspoon to a National Letter of Intent for the early signing period. A 5-foot-7 setter from Houston, Texas, Greenspoon expects to major in pre-professional biology at UTC.
“Signing day is always exciting for college coaches, but today is especially exciting,” Head Coach Travis Filar said. “Lauren is a great kid who comes from a great family and background, and we are excited to add her to the Chattanooga volleyball family.”
A three-year varsity starter and two-year varsity captain, the setter was a 2012 First Team All-District selection and 2012 Setter of the Year. Along with competing for Jersey Village High School, Greenspoon also set for one of the most prestigious club teams in the Houston area.
“Willowbrook Volleyball Club has one of the richest winning traditions in Texas,” Filar said. “She has great experience on the court and is a true competitor. She works hard for her team mates, has a great winning attitude and we love how serious she is when she is in competition mode. She wants to win badly and will work hard to win.”
To go along with an impressive winning resume, Greenspoon was also named to the 2013 VYPE and Lonestarvolleyball.com players to watch lists.
In 2012 alone, the setter’s team was crowned Presidents Cup, Houston Shootout and Cross Court champions. She was a 2012 first place Northeast qualifier and her team placed fifth at Junior Nationals.
Lauren is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and National Charity League.
Greenspoon is the daughter of Mike and Alice Greenspoon and has a twin brother, Jake, who has committed to play golf at the University of Texas at Arlington.
“Lauren is a very important addition to our program,” Filar stated. “Adding another very capable setter to the program is really important for us as we continue to move forward.”
