Southern Conference Championship Information

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Scenic City will be the site of the Southern Conference Volleyball Tournament for the first time since 2003 when the eight best teams in the league converge on Maclellan Gymnasium from November 15-18 to determine who will be crowned conference champion and take home the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Chattanooga Lady Mocs will begin their quest for their fifth Southern Conference Championship as the No. 4 seed when they face No. 5 Elon in an opening round game on Friday, November 16. UTC enters the tournament as the fourth seed for the first time since 2005 when they defeated Davidson 3-2 before falling in the semifinals to eventual champion College of Charleston by a 3-0 score.

The 2007 tournament will feature an eight team format with play beginning on Friday, November 16 with four matches and continuing to the semifinals on Saturday, November 17. The championship match will be played at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 18.

Friday’s early matches will feature No. 2 Appalachian State (18-13, 14-4) taking on No. 7 Davidson at 10:00 a.m. followed by No. 3 Furman (20-8, 13-5) facing No. 6 UNC Greensboro (18-14, 11-7) in the 12:30 p.m. match.

The second session will kick off at 4:30 p.m. when No. 1 College of Charleston (22-7, 16-2) takes on No. 8 Georgia Southern (10-20, 7-11) and will wrap up with Chattanooga facing No. 5 Elon in the 7:00 p.m. match.

The winner of the Appalachian State and Davidson match will advance to play the winner of the Furman and UNC Greensboro match at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday while the winners of the College of Charleston and Georgia Southern match will play the winner of Chattanooga and Elon at 2:00 p.m.

Tickets for the Southern Conference Tournament are available in both tournament and session passes and will be available at Maclellan Gym. An adult tournament pass is $25 while a student tournament pass is $8 with valid Mocs Card. Single session passes are $10 for an adult and $3 for a student with valid Mocs Card.

All sessions that Chattanooga plays in, the first 50 Chattanooga students with a valid Mocs Card ID will get in free to Maclellan Gym.

Live stats will be available throughout the tournament as will live streaming video from SoCon.TV. Packages are available at www.soconsports.com and include a complete volleyball tournament package for $29.95 as well as per-day packages that are $9.95 each.

CHATTANOOGA TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The Lady Mocs have won four Southern Conference Championships in the 25-year history of the league beginning in 1987 and including three consecutive from 1996-1998. The last time that Chattanooga advanced to the championship match was in 2001 when Georgia Southern defeated UTC 3-0. In each of the last four seasons, the Lady Mocs have fallen to the College of Charleston
