CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In what will be three straight trips to North Carolina for the Chattanooga volleyball team, the Lady Mocs are set to travel to Appalachian State and Western Carolina for weekend conference matches.

The Lady Mocs (15-13, 10-4 Southern) will play the Mountaineers on Saturday at 7 p.m. and will finish up the two-game stretch against Western on Sunday at 2 p.m.

“These are big matchups for us this weekend because we are still fighting for tournament seeding,” Head Coach Lisa Rhodes said. “These last four matches on the road are going to be tough, but we need to play well to put us in a good position for the conference tournament.

Appalachian State (6-22, 2-12) comes into Saturday’s match after a 3-1 win over Western Carolina on Wednesday. So far in 2008 the Mountaineers are hitting .170 as a team and are led by Jordan Jessberg in kills per set at 2.76.

At setter, ASU implements a two-person unit with Charissa Clearman and Kasey Sauls. Clearman leads the squad in assists per set at 7.05, while Sauls follows closely behind with 6.34. Heather Kale is team’s leader in digs per set with 3.18.

This will be the second time the Lady Mocs and Mountaineers have faced off this season with Chattanooga taking round one, 3-1 on Oct. 3 in Maclellan Gym.

Sunday’s matchup with Western Carolina will also be a rematch for the Lady Mocs as UTC swept the Catamounts 3-0 on Oct. 4.

Western is currently mired in a three-game losing streak and is led by Amanda Kerr on offense with 2.29 kills per set. Katie Hennessey is used as the team’s primary setter and leads the team with 7.71 assists per set. Defensively, Liz Rondone paces the team in digs per set with 4.61.
