CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team spent some time on Friday afternoon at the T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital at Erlanger that is located just off the UTC campus. The group of 15 was guided around the hospital and visited with the patients.

"Anytime that our student athletes can go out in the community and give back to this great area that we live in is special," said head coach Travis Filar. "This is an area that is very supportive of UTC Athletics and the volleyball program. We are trying to build a family and anytime that we can do things together like making a couple of children smile is going to helps us to grow."

The team provided the rooms that they visited with autographed posters and shared some stories with the patients. Be sure to look at the photo gallery that can be viewed below.

"Having the opportunity to talk with the children was a rewarding experience for our team," said senior middle blocker Ellie Kuhn (San Antonio, Texas). "It was great to be able to put a smile on their faces, and it was touching to find out about some of the obstacles that these children have overcome."

Filar also added that he will remember the entire experience and the team touched everyone that they came in contact with.

"It was touching to be able to brighten someones day," said Filar. "We were definitely able to make an impact on the children, but it was also their parents and the hospital staff. For them to see us wanting to be there and give back with our presence is very rewarding."

This was one of the last team activities this spring as the Lady Mocs finished up their spring schedule on April 21. They are looking forward to training on their own this summer and will begin preparations for the fall season in August.
