CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball junior middle blocker Christina Teter (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) was selected to the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District III First Team on Thursday. This is the first all-district honor for Teter, but the fourth-straight season  that the Mocs have placed a student-athlete on the team.

With the first team selection, Teter is now nominated to be on the ballot for CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America, which will be released on Dec. 12.

"This is a well-deserved award for a student-athlete that takes pride in her school work," said head coach Travis Filar. "Christina knows what it means to be a student-athlete by excelling in the classroom and understanding the importance of getting a degree to set herself up for the future."

Academically, the Signal Mountain, Tenn., native has compiled a 4.0 grade-point average as a Biology major showing her dedication on the court and in the classroom.

Teter has been one of the Mocs primary offensive threats during her junior campaign. She has posted a .281 attacking pct. and leads the team in all blocking categories with 23 solo and 44 assisted for a 0.64 per set average.

"Additionally, she has been a go-to player for us," said Filar. "She has had a great season on the volleyball court, but the most impressive thing is her ability to balance everything and earn such high marks in the classroom. I am really proud of her efforts and she is a great representation of a Chattanooga student-athlete."

Currently, she is second on the team with 302 kills, a 2.90 per-set average. Teter ranks in the top 10 on the Chattanooga career hitting charts with a .295 pct.

The past three seasons Courtney Barnes has represented the Mocs on the all-district team and received first teams honors in her senior campaign, 2010.

Joining Teter on the first team was Kaitlyn Anderson (North Carolina), Andrea Beck (Wake Forest), Kasey Elswick (UT Martin), Jenna Miller (UT Martin) and Maggie Seeds (Appalachian State).

Chattanooga finishes up the regular season this weekend hosting Appalachian State and Western Carolina at Macllelan Gym. The match against the Mountaineers is set for 7 p.m., while the Catamounts meet the Mocs on Sunday at 3 p.m. Links to live stats and video can be found on the volleyball schedule page of GoMocs.com.
