Volleyball Travels to Furman Saturday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.-- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team travels to Greenville, S.C., this weekend to take on Furman at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The Mocs (10-15, 4-6 SoCon) enter the weekend battling for sole-possession of second place in the Southern Conference North. Meanwhile, the Paladins (19-6, 7-3 SoCon) is still in the hunt for first place in the Southern Conference South.

UTC enters the Saturday matchup with two wins in its last three matches. Splitting last weekend, Chattanooga boasts two SoCon Players of the Week in senior Paula Passmore (Merritt Island, Fla.) and freshman Briana Reid (Houston, Texas). Passmore was named Defensive Player of the Week as the libero collected 48 digs against Georgia Southern and Davidson, and Reid was named Freshman of the Week for her 25 kills and second career double-double.

Along with her third weekly honor of the season, Passmore moved back into second in the nation in digs with a SoCon-leading 6.2 digs per set. Penn State's Dani Shepherd is averaging the NCAA-best 6.38 digs per set. Among the SoCon, the Mocs rank third with 17.30 digs per set 12th in blocking with 1.59 blocks per set. Senior Christina Teter (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) is Chattanooga's blocking leader with 66, averaging 0.79 blocks per set.

The Chattanooga offense is ranked ninth in the SoCon with a .173 hitting percentage while averaging 11.86 kills. UTC is 10th in the conference with 10.78 assists per set and is seventh with 1.12 service aces per set. Teter leads the Mocs with 208 kills while freshman Julimar Alvarado (San Juan, Puerto Rico) follows with 179. Junior Bridget Camacho (Cumming, Ga.) is UTC's assists leader with 862, an average of 9.58 per set.

Furman enters the match having already played Wofford Friday night. Prior to Wofford, Furman is coming off a 3-1 loss to Elon and a 3-0 win over non-conference foe Winthrop. As a team, Furman ranks first in the SoCon in hitting percentage, kills and assists. Its .269 hitting percentage is fueled by senior Caroline Adams, who leads the SoCon in hitting with a .368 percentage.

The Paladins rank eighth in the conference with 15.84 digs per set and is 10th with 1.73 blocks per set. Adams leads the team with 75 blocks. Freshman Jo Wilks, who lead the league with 1036 assists, has been named Freshman of the Month four times this season.
