Passmore is Libero of the Year, Reid All-Freshman

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.-- The Southern Conference announced Wednesday afternoon Chattanooga senior libero Paula Passmore (Merritt Island, Fla.) has been named the SoCon Libero of the Year and to the All-Conference Second Team, and freshman Briana Reid (Houston, Texas) has been named to the All-Freshman Team.

Passmore has now been named SoCon Libero of the Year twice in her career, earning the award in 2010 as a sophomore. Being named to the All-SoCon Second Team is her second All-SoCon honor in four years with Chattanooga, named to the All-SoCon Freshman Team in 2009.

Passmore collected a career-best 734 digs during the regular season, exceeding her previous best by 80 digs. The senior's 6.38 digs per set average leads the SoCon and is good for second in the NCAA. Passmore moved into second all-time at UTC in digs this season with 2366 on her career.

Reid collected her first yearly SoCon honor Wednesday, named to the All-Freshman Team. As the two-time SoCon Freshman of the Week closed out the season on fire, so did the Mocs. The freshman recorded double-digit kills in eight of her last nine matches, setting a new career-best with 17 kills against UNCG on Nov. 2 at Maclellan Gym.

During her first season with the Mocs, Reid amassed 229 kills and averaged 2.39 kills per set. The outside hitter also finished fourth on the team in blocks with 29.0, 15 assisted and 14 solo. Reid totaled six double-doubles on the season, including eight matches which she put up double-digit digs. The 5-foot-9 hitter accumulated three 20-dig matches, setting a personal-best with 28 digs Nov. 3 against Elon.

UTC travels to Davidson, N.C., Friday to compete in the Southern Conference Tournament for the first time since the 2008 season. The third-seeded Mocs (14-17, 8-8 SoCon) take on the two-seeded College of Charleston (23-7, 14-2 SoCon) Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Belk Arena. The Cougars are riding a five-match winning streak while Chattanooga goes into the tournament on a four-match winning streak.
