CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Lady Mocs softball team (26-23, 10-8 SoCon) travels to Burlington, N.C., Friday for its weekend series against the Elon Phoenix. The Season finale begins Saturday at 1 p.m. with a double header and wraps up Sunday at 1 p.m. with a single game.
"This is a big weekend for us," Head Coach Frank Reed said. "This is our chance to build some momentum going into the Southern Conference Tournament following the weekend at Elon."
Chattanooga goes into the weekend coming off a 3-0 loss to UAB in Birmingham, Ala. Freshman Sam Taylor (Chickamauga, Ga.) leads the attack for the Lady Mocs with a .319 batting average and 14-game hitting streak. The freshman batted .417 during the month of April and collected a team-best 15 hits over 11 games played.
Sophomore Taylor Deason (Clarksville, Tenn.) looks to continue her dominance in the circle as the righty goes into the series with 16 win son the season and a 3.36 ERA. Freshman Rachel Albritton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) continues to support the team’s best ERA at 2.62 and freshman Kaisey Carson (Indianapolis, Ind.) was a team-best 2-2 in the month of April in five appearances and three starts.
The Phoenix (18-30, 5-14 SoCon) is led by outfielder Tomeka Watson who bats a team-best .420 with 41 hits and 31 RBI. Carleigh Nester follows up with a .371 average and is tied for the team lead in RBI with 31, while she trails Watson by just four home runs off the team pace of 14.
The Elon pitching staff is headed up by Kayla Caruso, leading the team with nine wins and a 3.65 ERA. Caruso also has the lone Phoenix save of the season. The righty has pitch a team-high 126.2 innings while sophomore starter Chelsea White has tossed 101.0 innings on the season. White is 5-14 on the season with a 3.74 ERA in the circle.
After wrapping up the season at Elon, Chattanooga travels to Greensboro, N.C. to compete in the Southern Conference Tournament. All three games are available via live stats and free audio is provided for each game.
