A pair of University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football student-athletes earned preseason All-American honors from Beyond Sports Network this week. Senior linebacker Wes Dothard and junior defensive end Davis Tull were both listed among the top defensive players in the nation entering the 2013 season.
Dothard is a two-time All-American and a two-time first team All-Southern Conference selection. He led the Mocs in tackles in with 94 stops in 2012. The Carrollton, Ga., native was in the middle of a defensive unit with was No. 10 in the nation, allowing just over 300 yards per game. Dothard has played in 31 games with 22 starts in his career. He has 214 career tackles and 19.5 TFLs.
Tull (Knoxville, Tenn.) is expected to grab a ton of preseason pub after becoming the first sophomore since Appalachian State’s Dexter Coakley (1994) to be named SoCon Defensive Player of the Year in 2012. He led the SoCon and was third in the nation with 12.5 sacks. He also led the SoCon and was No. 3 in the country with 19.0 TFLs. This is Tull’s second preseason All-American honor heading into 2013. He is also on the Sporting News Preseason All-American team.
Tull and Dothard are both on the first team and should continue to earn more recognition as the start of the season draws closer. They were both listed on the College Football Performance Awards Watch List for linebackers and defensive linemen, respectively.
Kickoff for the 2013 season is set for Thursday, Aug. 29, against UT Martin. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at Chattanooga’s Finley Stadium. Season tickets are on sale now on GoMocs.com or by calling the UTC Ticket Office at (423) 266-MOCS (6627).
