The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis team posted eight wins in 13 matches on the opening day of the Georgia State Southern Shootout in Atlanta, Ga. The Lady Mocs won four of seven in doubles and posted four wins in six singles bouts.
Senior Alexa Flynn (Memphis, Tenn.) and sophomore Kayla Jones (Memphis, Tenn.) split their matches at No. 1. They finished doubles play with an 8-6 win over Emory’s Beatrice Rosen and Stephanie Loutsenko.
Jones continued her strong start to the fall singles season with a straight-set win over Georgia State’s Masa Grgan in the Flight 1. Jones defeated Grgan 6-3, 6-1 to improve to 4-0 in the fall.
Junior Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin, Tenn.) also had a strong win in the singles Flight 2. She defeated Panthers’ Marcia Tere-Apisah (6-4, 7-5). Flynn gave UTC three wins in the top draws with her (6-2, 6-4) victory against Georgia State’s Chaimaa Roudami in Flight 3. Storie had the other singles win in Flight 6, a (6-1, 6-3) victory over GSU’s Tiffany Flood.
