Mocs at Samford Friday, Host Davidson Sunday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team looks to lead off the month of November with wins over Samford on the road and Davidson at home. Chattanooga is coming off a 3-1 win last Saturday over The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.

The Mocs open up the new month Friday at 8 p.m. in Birmingham, Ala., for its second meeting with the Samford Bulldogs. The last time the two teams met was Oct. 9 as UTC claimed a 3-0 upset over the Bulldogs at Maclellan Gym.

Samford is looking to bounce back from a split weekend, taking a 3-0 decision over The Citadel and falling 1-3 on the road to Georgia Southern. The Bulldogs are 15-10 on the season and 6-4 in the conference. It is 6-2 in home matches this season.

The Bulldogs are led by Michaela Reesor as the junior totals 335 kills on the season and leads Samford with 359.5 total points. During her last matchup with the Mocs, Reesor recorded 14 kills. Defensively, middle blocker Katie Murphy leads the ‘Dogs at the net with 91.0 blocks and libero Chelsi Carter is the digs leader with 378, averaging 4.40 digs per set. Carter collected 18 digs last time out against Chattanooga.

UTC wraps up the weekend Sunday at 2 p.m. at Maclellan Gym as the Mocs host Davidson for the final time on the season. Chattanooga is 0-1 against the Wildcats in 2013, falling 1-3 in Davidson, N.C., Oct. 13. Davidson and Chattanooga are currently tied for ninth in the SoCon standings at 3-7.

Senior Carolina Brown continues to pace the Wildcats with 305 kills. The outside hitter is averaging 3.76 points per set and 3.18 kills per set. Fans can expect Anastasia Owen and Brown to split the workload on defense. Owen leads the Wildcats with 398 digs, averaging 4.23 digs per set, while Brown follows up with 358 digs on the season, digging 3.73 spikes per set.
