SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- After another season full of record-breaking accomplishments, Chattanooga volleyball player Lara Newberry was named first team all-conference.
Newberry was also tabbed as the Southern Conference’s Libero of the Year Thursday, as chosen by the league’s coaches.
This is the third time she has been named the conference’s libero of the year as she won the award her freshman and junior season, and the first time she has been selected to the all-conference first team.
In 2008 the senior once again saw another NCAA record fall this season as Newberry broke the mark for career digs (2,791) on Oct. 8 against Samford. She also owns the record for digs in a season (942), which she captured during her junior season.
The Chattanooga native also broke the school record for digs in a match, which was previously set at 46, with 51 against Wofford on Oct. 11.
Entering the 2008 Southern Conference Tournament the libero not only leads the conference, but she leads the nation in digs (738) and digs per set (6.53).
The Lady Mocs are currently in Greensboro, N.C. for the Southern Conference Tournament. Chattanooga will begin its quest for a fifth conference tournament championship Friday morning against Furman at 10 a.m.
