Newberry Featured in Latest Issue of Sports Illustrated

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Thanks to record setting performances in October, Chattanooga volleyball player Lara Newberry is being featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of the Oct. 27 issue of Sports Illustrated.
Newberry, who already owns the NCAA record for digs in a season (942), broke the NCAA’s mark for digs in a career on Oct. 8 against Samford.
The senior captured the record, which was previously set at 2,791 by Minnesota’s Paula Gentile, with her 15th dig during the second set of a 3-0 loss to the Bulldogs. Newberry’s record now stands at 2,977 with seven games left to play in the regular season.
The Chattanooga native currently leads the nation in digs (578) and in digs per set (6.49).
