CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - In recognition of her performance on and off the court, senior University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball player Courtney Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) was named on Thursday to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Third Team.
Barnes has been the Lady Mocs main offensive threat during her junior campaign. Her presence as a middle blocker has allowed for the team's young cast of outside hitters to have an opportunity to generate kills down the lines and cross court.
Academically, she has earned a 3.93 grade-point average as a Health and Human Performance major.
The Franklin, Tenn., native has notched 2.66 kills per set while hitting at .324 percent to lead the team, while she ranks second in hitting percentage and eighth in kills in the Southern Conference.
She paces the squad with 18 solo blocks and is second on the team with 75 total blocks.
Barnes and the Lady Mocs are back in Maclellan Gym on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Western Carolina. Chattanooga recognizes its lone senior, Cassie Conner, on Sunday prior to the match with Appalachian State. All the action begins at 2 p.m.
This is the second time that Barnes has been honored by CoSIDA. Last season, she was named to the all-district second team.
