CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---The first installment of the Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball notebook is here. Despite the ending of the season, the Mocs are still very noteworthy. begins its season in pictures series on Thursday, April 3, with freshman guard Greg Pryor (Memphis, Tenn.). The series includes photos and notes of the Mocs heading into the summer.

Mason, Wade Up for Awards
Senior forward Z. Mason (Nashville, Tenn.) and Head Coach Will Wade are keeping the Chattanooga Mocs in the news. Both are finalists for awards from

Mason earned a spot on the website’s 2014 Lou Henson All-America team. That make is a finalist for the Lou Henson Award given annually to the top “mid-major” performer in the country. He is the only Southern Conference player to make the cut.

Wade is up for two awards. One is the Hugh Durham Award that is given to the top mid-major coach in the nation. Named for the former head coach at Georgia, Wade joins Gregg Marshall (Wichita State), Rick Byrd (Belmont) and 12 others on the list.

Another legendary coach has his name on an award that has Wade in its sights. The Joe B. Hall Award goes to the top head coach in the nation that moved up from the assistant ranks this season. names the winners of its various awards at a banquet April 4 in Dallas at the Final 4.

Mason Headed to Portsmouth Invitational Tournament
Mason is one of 64 college seniors headed to the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. The annual event (since 1953) is held April 16-19 at Churchland High School Sports Complex in Portsmouth, Va.

The “PIT” is the only postseason camp conducted for top collegiate seniors. It’s a showcase for NBA and European scouts serving a springboard into a professional basketball career.
