(Photo Credit: EMCC Athletics): Head Coach announces the addition of East Mississippi Community College forward Chuck Ester to this year’s signing class
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---East Mississippi Community College forward Chuck Ester is continuing his education and playing career with the Chattanooga Mocs Head Coach Will Wade announced today. Ester transfers with three years of eligibility remaining.
“We discovered him at the same summer camp in St. Louis where we saw Duke Ethridge,” Wade said. “He’s really intriguing because he has three years to play. He has a nice shot, nice stroke…very skilled player.”
Ester, 6-7, 210 lbs., played with early signee Jacolby Mobley (16.5 ppg) leading EMCC to a 20-7 record and an NJCAA Region 23 title berth. He posted 8.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest for Mark White’s Lions. He is well equipped for Wade’s “Chaos” brand considering EMCC’s pressing ways.
“He fits our style because he can play multiple positions,” Wade added. “He was the mad man at the front of the press and brought energy. When his motor is going he is a very, very good player.”
Chuck had one of his best games late in the year for EMCC. He tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds in the Mississippi Junior College State Tournament win over Pearl River on February 24th. It was his third double-double of the season. He posted highs of 21 points (vs. NE Mississippi CC) and 11 boards (vs. 3 opp.) for the year.
Ester joins six others who begin their Chattanooga playing careers in 2014-15. Justin Tuoyo (VCU) and Tre' McLean (Queens) sat out this past season due to NCAA transfer statutes. Mobley, Ethridge (Lakeland, Ga./South Georgia Technical College), Brandon Maxwell (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Christian Prep) and Shaq Preston (New Orleans, La./East Jefferson High School) inked in the November signing period.
