CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---GoMocs.com concludes its “Season in Pictures” series today recapping a memorable 2013-14. We close with senior Z. Mason.

Mason, a native of Nashville, Tenn., was the 2014 Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He earned All-SoCon honors while pacing the Mocs in nearly every statistical category. Click the photo gallery link above for Z’s season in pictures.

Three-Point Shot: Z. Mason
1) Z. led Chattanooga in scoring (18.1 ppg). Rebounding (9.7 rpg) and blocks with a school season-record 92. His rebounding and block numbers paced the SoCon as well. He ended his three-season stint with 1,177 points, 683 rebounds and 129 blocks. He is the ONLY Moc to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 100 blocks in a career.

2) Top Play: Late game shots and huge blocks were pretty much par for the course with Mason. Finding one play above all others is almost like finding a needle in a haystack. The Mocs were up 16 points, 65-49, at home in the second half against Western Carolina when the Catamounts stormed back. James Sinclair’s three-pointer cut the lead to four after a 12-0 Western run. The lead was six, 69-63, with 5:07 to go when Mason put an early exclamation point on the proceedings. He threw down an emphatic tip dunk off a Casey Jones miss to turn momentum around squarely on what would become a 10-point win.

3) Best game: Special mention has to be given to the only 40 & 10 night in school history which Z. turned in December 10th with 41 points and 12 boards in the win over Hiwassee. But his best game has to be the 30-point, 14-rebound effort at The Citadel. He keyed a comeback from 12 points down in the second half for the pivotal win setting the tone early in league play. Mason had 26 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals after intermission shooting 8-11 from the field, 2-4 from 3pt range and 8-9 from the FT line in those final 20 minutes.
