Seventeen student-athletes were named to the 2007-08 Southern Conference Winter Academic All-Conference Team.

The list features a total of 137 student-athletes from five winter semester sports and all 11 Southern Conference schools.  It requires a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 to qualify.  Additionally, a student-athlete must have participated in at least one-half of their sport’s contests from the past season to gain eligibility.

Headlining Chattanooga’s qualifying student-athletes are five individuals with GPAs of 3.80 or greater, including a 4.0 by senior Amy Mohr of women’s basketball, a 3.93 by sophomore Michael Danehy of men’s indoor track and a 3.91 by senior Amanda Alexander of the women’s indoor track team.  Senior Michael Mentz of the men’s indoor track team finished with a 3.82 GPA, while men’s basketball junior Zach Ferrell placed with a 3.80.

As a group, UTC’s women’s indoor track team led the way, placing six members on the All-Academic team, while women’s basketball placed four and men’s indoor track qualified three.  Men’s basketball and wrestling each had two student-athletes make the team.

Individually, Mohr was one of only four SoCon student-athletes to post a perfect 4.0, joining fellow women’s basketball player Jessica Geiger of Georgia Southern and a pair of women’s indoor track athletes in The Citadel’s Jodi Whittle and UNC Greensboro’s Jess Weber.

The Southern Conference’s women’s indoor track teams placed the most student-athletes on the team with a total of 62 while 32 of the conference’s women’s basketball players were named.  As an institution, Chattanooga placed second with 17 student-athletes behind Western Carolina’s 22 qualifiers.
